Meet the startups: Tecology
Denmark based Tecology is pioneering biodiversity monitoring through automated AI-driven monitoring stations, focusing on tracking the activity and diversity of insects and birds.
The startups is leveraging camera technology to track insect populations and activities. Through their product, the startup is unlocking access to previously inaccessible data in this field, providing solutions that track the populations and activities of insects and birds.
This data is fed into a large detection and classification model to provide information on insect populations, species and behaviour. Their monitoring stations process vast amounts of visual and acoustic data to extract meaningful ecological insights, transforming raw sensor data into actionable information for biodiversity management and conservation.
Using Northern Data Group’s compute power as part of the AI Accelerator, Tecology aims to refine its system and improve the sophistication of its product so that it can expand the pool of species it can identify and enhance the capabilities of its biodiversity monitoring systems, sifting through images and data faster. This will allow them to broaden their product offering, delivering more robust and accurate monitoring solutions.

Q&A
How is your product driving innovation in the sustainability & biodiversity industry?
Tecology is pioneering biodiversity monitoring through automated AI-driven monitoring stations, focusing on tracking the activity and diversity of insects and birds. Our solution addresses the global biodiversity crisis by providing real-time, high-resolution, and standardized data on species that play critical functional roles in ecosystems and serve as reliable proxies for nature quality.
Traditional monitoring methods are often costly, labor-intensive, and infrequent, while our system offers a scalable, continuous, and automated alternative. This innovation allows organizations to efficiently track biodiversity with minimal human intervention, helping them document and evaluate the success of their nature-positive initiatives, meet sustainability goals, and fulfill non-financial reporting requirements such as ESG and CSRD compliance.
How do you harness the power of AI?
AI is at the core of Tecology’s innovation. Our monitoring stations provide a continuous stream of high-resolution biodiversity data by operating on-site, day and night, across full seasons. The stations process vast amounts of visual and acoustic data to extract meaningful ecological insights, transforming raw sensor data into actionable information for biodiversity management and conservation.
By running AI models on the edge, we can collect data frequently and autonomously, even in remote locations, ensuring comprehensive datasets that reveal patterns and trends in biodiversity over time and across locations.
We aim to scale globally, providing more precise biodiversity insights to support organizations in achieving their sustainability targets, ultimately making a positive impact on the biodiversity crisis.
What motivated you to join the AI Accelerator?
Joining Northern Data Group's AI Accelerator offers Tecology the opportunity to supercharge our AI development with access to cutting-edge GPU infrastructure.
This partnership will be instrumental in accelerating the training of our classification models, allowing us to expand the pool of species we can identify and enhance the capabilities of our biodiversity monitoring systems.
Furthermore, collaborating with Northern Data Group’s experts will enable us to optimize our AI workflows and integrate best practices in scaling our solutions. These advancements will allow us to broaden our product offering, delivering more robust and accurate monitoring solutions. By enhancing the scale and precision of our technology, we aim to deliver impactful solutions that that address the growing demand for biodiversity monitoring.
