GTC was a seminal moment for the AI ecosystem – here's why
NVIDIA GTC conference was the transformative moment in AI that was promised. The Generative AI revolution has been paved with milestone moments and, without a doubt, this was one of them.
The Northern Data Group and its GenAI cloud platform, Taiga Cloud, had a hugely memorable experience, attending as a Platinum Sponsor and an Elite NVIDIA partner. Our booth was front and center on the exhibition floor (as were our DJ booths), we joined the speaking agenda with a panel on responsible innovation and hosted an over-subscribed networking event.
Taking our place alongside the world’s most important and innovative enterprises, researchers, and investors was hugely inspiring and a reminder of our bold collective ambition, as well as our shared responsibility, to innovate in the right way.
Below are some of my key takeaways from the week.
Possibilities are limitless (but we’ll achieve more together)
NVIDIA’s convening power is unmatched. As Jensen Huang said, “$100 trillion of the world’s companies are here at GTC.” I’ve been to developer conferences before, but I think everyone would agree, this was different. Thousands of us attended Jensen’s keynote in a stadium in central San Jose. However, the scale of the production did not overshadow the impact of NVIDIA’s announcements, industry partnerships or customer-driven innovation.
We heard about humanoid robotics, healthcare microservices, new digital twins to crack weather forecasting, omniverse integrations with Apple, and much more. These displays of GenAI truly in action showed just how far industry-wide collaboration can go.
This coupling of revolutionary new hardware with the necessary compute power is unlocking a new era of innovation bravery. And it is one that Northern Data Group is at the heart of.
Being named as one of the first sovereign AI cloud providers to secure access to Blackwell-based cloud services and infrastructure, beyond our existing market-leading NVIDIA GPU network, means we will continue to deliver the best possible hardware and engineering for our customers and help power the next wave of AI-driven innovation.
Making an impact
It was this message that resonated in the hundreds of conversations we had at our booth. Visitors from every strand of the industry walked around the exhibition hall and stopped by to hear about Northern Data Group, and its proposition across its GenAI cloud platform, Taiga Cloud, and cutting-edge colocation provider, Ardent Data Centers.
The extent of our tailored engineering support, technical optimization, energy and operational efficiency and existing GPU access all stood out as unique and sparked a huge number of new connections and opportunities for the future.
Our VR experience showing how we utilize a data center facility in Lefdal, Norway, helped bring to life how such technology can be powered by 100% clean energy and kept cool, thanks to pioneering liquid cooling systems.
It was a fantastic validation of the team’s hard work to have received such positive reactions over the whole week. Welcoming Jensen to our booth and hosting Northern Data Group’s well attended evening drinks reception in the Corinthian’s Grand Ballroom were huge highlights.
Setting the foundations for a bright future
In Jensen’s own words, the industry is at a “tipping point”. The discoveries and choices made will resonate for years to come. There felt an acknowledgement that with this opportunity comes a shared responsibility to set the industry up for a sustainable future.
A particular highlight for me was joining Rosanne Kincaid-Smith, COO of Northern Data Group, Karl Havard, MD of Taiga Cloud and Eiso Kant, CTO and co-founder of our customer, Poolside.ai on stage for a panel discussion on 'Balancing power, planet and innovation: How to credibly address sustainability and ethics for Generative AI innovations.' It is a big question to tackle, but one that most attendees of GTC were facing.
We discussed the realities of building a business in this competitive environment, the race to access power at a competitive price, the importance of asking the right questions of your partners and understanding how your GenAI infrastructure is cooled, and the realization that powering GPUs in modern data centers can be done without sacrificing our planet.
NVIDIA GTC has given us all a moment to recognize the businesses and individuals at the center of AI-driven innovation, and an opportunity to see the use cases of GenAI in action from businesses of all sizes. It certainly felt like just the beginning, and I came away optimistic that all those involved want to play their part in creating an industry where your best ideas can come to life.
As an Elite partner of NVIDIA, and the largest dedicated GenAI CSP in Europe, we will continue to offer access to the latest technology while simultaneously enabling customers to deploy it in the right way, keeping sustainability and ethics at the core. It is in this spirit that we support NVIDIA’s Inception Program, and also why we are launching our own AI Accelerator. More to come on this!
2024 promises to be another pivotal year for our industry. We’re excited for what’s next!
